Summary of Duties

The Smertenko Laboratory in the Institute of Biological Chemistry has a post-doctoral position open to study mechanisms of cytokinesis in plants. Smertenko’s laboratory identified a microtubule-nucleating protein, which localizes to the plant cytokinetic structure, the phragmoplast. The goal of this project is characterize activity of this protein using in vitro reconstitution of microtubule dynamics and analysis of microtubule behavior in vivo. The position is initially for 1 year with a further 2 years’ extension pending satisfactory progress. Salary is negotiable depending on the experience. Required Qualifications

PhD in Protein Biochemistry, Cell Biology,Plant Biology or related field.

Experience in protein production using insect, yeast, and bacterial systems.

Effective written and oral skill, which includes communications with others from different field and background.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence microscopy, Confocal Microscopy, image analysis, as well as MetaMorph and Matlab would be advantageous, however the required training in microscopy and image analysis will be provided.
