The Director reports jointly to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs on the WSU Tri-Cities campus and the Dean of the College of Nursing. This position serves an important role with respect to students, faculty, and the community. In the role of leader, the Director fosters conditions and relationships with a focus on student success. WSU Tri-Cities faculty members fulfill teaching, research, and service responsibilities on the campus. The Director’s career success depends on nurturing and encouraging a climate that supports these three pillars. The Director provides mentorship and advances faculty needs and interests on a daily basis. WSU Tri-Cities is invested in our local community and the Director serves as a leader on the campus and in its academic mission.

Washington State University (WSU), a distinguished and comprehensive public research university, seeks an innovative and experienced leader to serve as Academic Director of Nursing at Washington State University Tri-Cities (WSU Tri-Cities). WSU Tri-Cities is part of a vibrant and thriving Tri-Cities community and has close ties to the local healthcare industry, community colleges, and other key economic partners. The Director of Nursing holds a faculty and administrative leadership position at WSU Tri-Cities. The Director works closely with other Program Directors in the College of Nursing, directs Research, Student Affairs and Data Compliance. In consultation with pertinent offices, responsibilities include academic, budget, personnel and space planning, annual and third year reviews of faculty and staff, tenure and promotion of faculty, student recruitment and retention, student learning outcomes assessment, and other applicable academic and administrative processes.

WSU-Tri-Cities Nursing Programs:
WSU’s College of Nursing, a National League for Nursing Center of Excellence in Nursing Education, offers rigorous and flexible undergraduate and graduate nursing degree programs designed to fit the many needs of today’s nursing students. Students learn from exceptional, accessible faculty with expertise in ICU, medical surgery, nursing education, obstetrics, oncology and pediatrics as well as community health and hospital management. Degree programs include; pre-licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-BSN), Master of Nursing (MN), Master of Nursing (RN-MN) and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). The WSU Tri-Cities nursing program has more than 100 nursing students and 15 faculty members.

The Tri-Cities are a group of three closely tied cities: Richland, Kennewick, and Pasco, located at the confluence of the Yakima, Snake, and Columbia rivers in Southeastern Washington. The Tri-Cities area offers a variety of outdoor and cultural activities, including a number of golf courses; a 67-mile system of paved pedestrian and bike trails; ample opportunities for boating, fishing, and swimming; three professional sports teams; a number of performing arts venues; and more than 100 wineries within a 50 mile radius. In 2010, Kiplinger rated the Tri-Cities among the top 10 best places to raise a family, and CNN/Money ranked the Tri-Cities one of the top 10 best bets for gains in housing value. The Tri-Cities Airport located in Pasco provides the region with commercial and private air service.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree. Requirements include a minimum of five years’ experience with demonstrated leadership ability and exhibited strength in both research and teaching. It is expected that the Director will have the credentials to be appointed at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with tenure.

The successful candidate possesses skills to develop new and innovative approaches to nursing education and research, demonstrated ability to build relationships with industry partners and alumni to benefit teaching, research and outreach programs, experience with accreditation and excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a proved record in designing and delivering innovative programs in interdisciplinary research and the advancement of undergraduate and graduate education to a diverse student body.
