Summary of Duties

We are seeking a Scientist Assistant who will perform laboratory experiments and manage daily laboratory operations related to ongoing research projects. The successful candidate will work and communicate well with other members of the lab, as well as the administration and other Research Associates in the School of Molecular Biosciences.

Responsibilities include:

• Performing experiments in the lab.

• Ordering supplies and reagents.

• Maintaining organization of the lab.

• Providing status updates on the lab’s projects through written and oral presentation.

Position Qualifications

Required Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate related scientific or engineering discipline and three (3) years of progressively responsible related professional research experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. A Master’s degree in an appropriate related scientific or engineering discipline may be substituted for up to one year of the required work experience.

Additional Requirements
Preferred Qualifications

Five (5) years of experience in scientific research, preferably in life sciences or the biotech industry.
A Master’s degree in microbiology, immunology, cell biology, or biochemistry is a plus.
Wet-lab experience with Western blotting, cloning, RNA and protein extraction, qRT-PCR, viral and bacterial infections, and cell culture.
Experience with Drosophila melanogaster.
Excellent computer skills, especially with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
Bioinformatics experience.
Ability to collaborate with other researchers.
Ability and willingness to learn new experimental techniques.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
