Summary of Duties

Reporting to and working in close partnership with the Director of Corporate Relations, the Assistant Director serves as a relationship manager for a portfolio of important corporations that support priority areas at Washington State University. The Assistant Director develops strategies to cultivate, solicit and steward engagement with these companies and pursuing gifts, primarily in excess of $25,000. The Assistant Director will work closely with University administrators, faculty, the WSU Foundation team, and external corporate leaders and program officers, as needed.

Position Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Positions require a Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of progressively responsible relevant experience, which includes eighteen (18) months of full-time fundraising experience which includes demonstrated success of face-to-face solicitation of gifts of $1000 or more, mass market fundraising, event planning and management, donor stewardship, fund tracking and acknowledgements to donors OR comparable experience and one (1) year of managerial experience. Comparable experience totaling four (4) years of progressively responsible full time experience in sales, marketing, public relations or advancement experience which has involved direct face-to-face contact with clients, customers, prospective customers and members of the public may be substituted for the experience requirements. A Master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience.

Additional Requirements

• Demonstrated ability to write proposals for clients, customers, or prospective customers.

• Willing to travel (must have a valid driver’s license) and work occasional evenings or weekends to meet proposal submission deadlines.

• Strong organizational skills. Spreadsheet, word processing, e-mail and Internet research skills.

• Evidence of ability to work collaboratively with development colleagues, coworkers and constituents

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in higher education or similar complex organization.
