Summary of Duties

Washington State University (WSU) College of Pharmacy is seeking to hire three (3) full-time, non-tenure track, 12-month appointments for individuals as Clinical Assistant or Clinical Associate Professor. These positions will be located at the Yakima Extension on the campus of Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences (PNWU) in Yakima, Washington. Successful candidates may teach in both laboratory and didactic courses and will serve as co-instructors of record and facilitators in the competency-based, active and collaborative learning curriculum. Opportunities to practice in an innovative clinical or community practice site with supervision of residents or advanced pharmacy practice students may also be pursued and is encouraged. Faculty candidates are additionally expected to contribute scholarly work in their area of clinical expertise and support the college through participation in service related activities according to the college’s promotion guidelines. These appointments are one-year renewable appointments beginning spring 2017, although no later than July 1, 2017. Individuals with a strong commitment to an academic career, to utilizing innovative teaching methods, and to promoting cutting edge pharmacy practice are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate is expected to contribute scholarly work in their area of clinical expertise and support the college through participation in service related activities according to the College’s promotion guidelines.

The College of Pharmacy
The WSU College of Pharmacy was founded in 1891, and has been accredited since 1912. We are a graduate and professional education college. Our main degree programs include the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) and Doctorate in Pharmaceutical Sciences (PhD).

The College of Pharmacy is located in Spokane, Washington, at Washington State University’s Health Sciences campus. The college relocated from Pullman to Spokane in December 2013. We currently have nearly 600 student pharmacists and graduate students, and about 2,950 alumni. As of 2015, the WSU College of Pharmacy is ranked 21st out of 138 pharmacy schools in the country according to QS World University Rankings.

The Yakima Extension
The college welcomed its first cohort of 30 students to the Yakima Extension campus in the Fall of 2015 and is currently recruiting its third class of 35-40 prospective students. The WSU Doctor of Pharmacy program in Yakima offers faculty and students unique opportunities for interprofessional practice and education through collaborations developed on this small campus between students, faculty and staff from the programs affiliated with the Yakima Valley Interprofessional Practice and Education Collaborative (PNWU College of Osteopathic Medicine, Physician Assistant and Nursing programs from Heritage University, WSU College of Nursing, Central Washington University Dietetics and Paramedicine).

Required Qualifications

Candidates must possess a PharmD degree and have residency or fellowship training in advanced pharmacy practice. Acute care experience is preferred. Equivalent training and/or experience will be considered. Eligibility for Washington pharmacist licensure is required. Candidates must possess, or be able to obtain at the time of hire, blood borne pathogen training, BLS for healthcare providers, APhA immunization certificate, CITI training as well as mandatory trainings needed for WSU and PNWU.

Preferred Qualifications

Education and training in pharmacy practice or science.

Teaching experience in laboratory or lecture courses.

Basic knowledge in Genetics and Biochemistry.

Experience with novel teaching methods, i.e., flipped classroom, distance learning, etc.
